Every home should have one
Bought this for home but decided to use it in a rental that has just become available. Although not a requirement, they are worth having. Cannot comment on how effective it is until it is used which hopefully will be never!

Spoilt by an important detail omission in my opinion
This is a good 1m x 1m safety blanket contained in a strong, easy wipe-clean plastic containing box. The two pull tabs are easy to locate. I'm sure it would work well once it's released. There'll be optimum height that allows most people to reach the tabs and necessary force to release the blanket. Some advice in this would have been useful. My problem with the package is that there are no screws supplied. It allows for a single central screw to be placed in the wall so it can hang from it, rather like a wall clock. If you think about an on fire chip pan, for example, with flames starting climb to the ceiling, you're in a minor panic, so you pull the two tabs hard to release and the whole thing potentially falls off the wall, either because the plastic flexes around the screwhead and it drops off the screw, or the screw head is too small to hold under force. Not good. You're now scrabbling about trying to release the tabs with one hand while holding the containing box with the other.I really do think the manufacture should have supplied the right screw and rawl plug with a head the right size to be secure under forceful pulling, and recommended the right drill size for it. This would be very cheap and easy to do. It's a bad omission. It relies on the customer knowing what size screw head, screw, plug and hole will be functional. On the plus side the plastic box will be easy wipe clean, there's sound advice about tackling the flames and fire safety and pricing is about right. It could have been a 5***** review had the right fixings been supplied. As is, I see this as a foolish error. Just be careful how it's all fixed to the wall.

A purchase that will hopefully never need to be used
As with all safety equipment, there is always a hope that it will never need to be used. However, it is always better to be prepared in the event that the unexpected does happen.A fire blanket is an absolute essential for a number potential fire scenarios, where other types of fire protection measures wouldn't be suitable. For example, in the event of a chip pan fire in the home, there are very few options for extinguishing this. Water isn't an option as it tends to spread the fire and I'm not aware of any home which would have access to fire suppressant foam or carbon dioxide. Accordingly, a fire blanket is the most realistic method of extinguishing such a fire. The fire blanket is easy to use, in that all that is required is to pull firmly on the tapes (which will release the blanket) and spread the blanket over the fire. It is a little more difficult to refold the blanket and repackage (assuming the fire blanket hasn't been damaged) but it is clearly not unachievable.Unusually, a purchase of this product will hopefully be a waste of money. However, in the event that a fire does occur, it will probably be the best money you've ever spent.

Essential item
I've kept a fire extinguisher in my kitchen cupboard for years and it's gone out of date so I'm really happy to replace it with this fire blanket which I think will be far more usual over the coming years than the fire extinguisher was. It takes up less space and is less heavy and bulky than the extinguisher. The main problem with this fire blanket as other reviewers have noted it doesn't come with any fixings to attach it to the wall. You will have to be a bit of a DIY expert and have the necessary tools laying around to install it. Although you can actually remove the blanket from the casing by pulling it apart it won't be as fast in an emergency as if it was attached to the wall and you pulled the tabs in the way it has been designed. The instructions on the back actually suggest taking the blanket out every year and inspecting it before putting it back in the plastic case (there are even instructions on how to refold it again which I think will be a logistically nightmare) Most kitchen fires do start on the hob and if you are fast enough you will be able to minimise any damage by throwing the blanket over the source of the fire. It can also be used to roll a person who is caught on fire. I'll be very happy and reassured to know I have it in my kitchen just in case.

This is a must have item in the kitchen for safety reasons.
This FireAngel Fire Blanket is a must in any kitchen and this one lives nicely on the wall top above I've of our kitchen units ready in case disaster falls. Like another reviewer has already mentioned this product should have come with the correct fitments for safely attaching to a wall (namely screw and relevant rawl plug). This fire blanket which is approximately one meter square should easily smother a chip pan fire and any other stove related events. The blanket is contained in a wipe clean hard plastic box and to access the blanket in cases of fire you need to take hold of the two black pull tabs located at the bottom of the box (one in each hand) and pull firmly and this will release the blanket for use.We foster children for our local council and this fire blanket is a must have item ... I would strongly advise that every kitchen should have a fire blanket near to the stove for emergencies.
