Entertaining!
1980s horror movies are just better made. This one had an emotional layer to it as well. You really feel something for all the main characters, but you know something is going to go wrong, and forever change the happy dynamic going on before Sam dies. Overall, really entertaining movie.

A sadly underrated gem from Wes Craven that commands lots of respect.
For the life of me I just can't see how this incredible genius of a horror film has proven to be both underrated and criminally overlooked. I still have fond memories as a child of having seen it in a hotel on a movie channel while we were on vacation. Also, back in the summer of '96 while visiting my grandparents, I watched Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs and saw this movie again for the first time in nearly a decade and then afterwards got to see "Midnight Offerings". Another awesome 80's horror movie, btw.Well, anyhoo I personally feel that this movie goes into some relavant themes: Sexual attraction and repression, friendship, malicious and mean neighbors, bullies, an abusive father, and an experiment turning into a total nightmare.Beebee is without a doubt a lovable and fun robot so what happens to him later on is really sad. The main character and his paper delivering buddy are fun characters as well. And as for Kristy Swanson she is drop dead gorgeous, seriously smokin' hot, and amiable. Later on she proves both instinctive and incredibly wicked. As one of you other reviewers mentioned about Ann Ramsey getting her head splattered by a basketball, is a classically awesome kill scene for sure! I have never scene a scene of murder like that before. The way they made the characters as relatable as they could truly helped the movie a lot. I also enjoyed the scenes where Kristy Swanson creeps around and stalks her victims like any good slasher as well as the robot vision she had to work with were certainly great elements to be sure. The ending however could've turned out way better than it did. That's my only criticism of this classic mid 80's gem! Other than that it's a great solid sci-fi horror/slasher movie that anyone who loves truly unique horror movies, is a Wes Craven fan, or just loves good classic 80's horror movies is sure to love, possible as much as I do.

1980's
It's been a while since I watched this movie and I enjoyed it as much now as back then. Some parts were actually very funny. Loved the scene with the girls gym teacher and the basketball.

A Much Underrated Movie that deserves a Blu-ray/4K Release
Unlike most people, I have always loved this movie. I really wish Warner Bros. would release a director’s cut of the film. Originally Wes Craven’s idea was to make a PG, Sci-Fi movie about teenage love that was more like Diana Henstell’s novel, Friend. The novel Deadly Friend is based on is tragic and moving, much like the film’ s screenplay by Bruce Joel Rubin. I have read both Henstell’s novel and Rubin’s script, the latter I purchased through Script City. The screenplay moved me as much as the book did and is pretty much the way Wes Craven first filmed it. The studio later decided to cut out scenes that were important for character development after the original cut was filmed before a studio audience of Craven fans who, to my understanding, didn’t like it. But since I saw this movie at the age of sixteen, when it was released to theaters in October of 1986, it has always had a special place in my heart. I have owned both VHS and DVD copies of it. In fact, after the film was released to home video in 1987, I was then seventeen, I used to hurry home from school and play it on my VCR every day. I will always love this movie. I recommend it highly.

If Short Circuit became a weird slasher film
Alright so this is a weird one, but basically this film is kind of like if you took the film "Short Circuit" and turned it into an R rated slasher film. It starts off almost like a Joe Dante film(think Gremlins) where our lead teenage character Paul moves into a new neighborhood with his cute robot that he invented(that even makes cute little noises like in gremlins). He meets some new friends, they hang out, use the robot to play harmless pranks on people, very wholesome stuff. Really makes you think that your watching some G rated family film at first; but then the movie moves into it's second act. Alright, you ready for this? Well... The new girl next door that he just met ends up getting beaten by her abusive father leaving her brain dead and Paul decides to take her corps and put the computer chip from his cute robot pale into her skull which somehow brings her back to life but in true horror fashion similar to "Pet Cemetary" she then starts to go on a uncontrollable murder spree against her father and anyone else who gets in her way. Yeah... its weird. It's one of those movies that you just kind of have to see it to get an idea of what I'm taking about. Truth be told, a lot of it feels half baked and there's a lot of unused potential. Most of the themes and characters aren't really explored that much and as strange as the story is, the filmmakers don't really do much with any of it. The movie ends in an extremely anti-climatic way and it seems like the filmmakers really didn't know what kind of film they wanted to make. It's not bad, I mean the actors do all give pretty good performances, especially the lead actress who actually does a really good job selling the idea of a creepy dead girl possessed by an robot computer chip. But ultimately it is a hard film to recommend. It's not really a slasher film as there are only really 2 kills in the entire movie. BUT, that being said, one of the kills is perhaps one of the greatest gore shots of any movie I've ever seen. I'm not going to spoil it, but it involves an elderly lady getting killed with a basketball and if you like 80s gore effects at all, then you have to check it out. It's incredible. That and there are several gory dream sequences scattered throughout that just barely keep this movie from ever being too dull. Basically, this movie isn't that good but is has just enough weird stuff in it and likable characters that I would very hesitantly recommend this, especially if your a fan of 80s horror.
