NOT a technical/cruising guide to SF bay
I was looking for a general cruising guide to the bay area (e.g. specific details on anchorages, marinas, danger zones for vessels etc). This book was more the musings of the author and flowery anecdotes rather than an actual sailing discussion of the bay area. Also this was billed as new but looked like it was a used book that was many years old.

Beyond Sailing the Bay
While the focus of this book is on sailing San Francisco Bay this book offers much to all travel on the bay whether in kayak, windsurfer, powerboat or sailboat. Full of nautical and maritime history and lore. Marine articles from local newspapers. Plenty of tips on wide range of conditions one can expect on the bay (wind and the fog). Full of tips on the different micro bays (West Bay, North Bay, San Pablo Bay, the Delta, Sausalito, East Bay, South Bay and Beyond the Golden Gate Bridge (aka Potato Patch) within the San Francisco Bay. Included are harbors and boat launches located throughtout San Francisco Bay. While I learned to sail in San Francisco as a child, I have done most of my sailing in Southern Cal which is a lot calmer than San Francico Bay so this book is valuable resource for anyone who want to enjoy and challenge the conditions of the San Francisco Bay area waterways! Cheers!

A must read if you sail on SF Bay
This is a great book if you sail on SF Bay. This is not a "How to" book. It's loaded with information about the complex tide system of the bay, history, A breakdown of the different areas of the greater bay, marinas and much more (And a good dose of humor). Kimball Livingston is a journalist and contributor to various sail magazines and now and then offers his input in Latitude 38. A good writer.Definitely worth a read!

not my cup of tea
too general. was looking for more specifics such as places to go, best times to go, slips, anchorages, or moorings available at each site. I already know how the wind blows and the effect of currents in the bay, so give me something to read that I didn't know.

Awesome Primer
If you don't live in the San Francisco Bay Area and are coming here to sail get this book. Years of experience is packed in the pages of this book. You'll get caught up with some great information on racing tactics and general knowledge that took locals like me a while to learn.
