The set comprises a metal baking tin with a metal insert on which to suspend four ceramic ramekins. The metal insert ensures the base of each ramekin does not touch the baking tray. The baking tray is filled about halfway with water to gently cook the custards with the result being a perfectly cooked Crème Brulee after around an hour (including preparation time). It all comes apart for easy cleaning.The set comes boxed with a recipe on the rear (it uses American `Cup' measurements) that produces just the right amount to fill the four ramekins. It is dishwasher safe but cleans up easily by hand.You could probably achieve similar results using ramekins and a water bath, but this makes everything feel that little bit easier and perhaps breaks down some of the barriers I certainly had about making this dessert. I am really pleased I bought it.
