I the case was damaged in shipping and the collets were rattling around inside. Fortunately, each part was wrapped in plastic, and each collet had a shrink-wrapped sleeve that protected them. expected that I would probably need to clean these up a little, and that was quite apparent upon a close inspection. Everything had a protective film of oil. I put them under the microscope, and could only see one minor bump that cleaned up easily. However, every collet had flash, burrs, and grit inside. I determined a means to clean them up with an Ex-acto knife and compressed air. I got it down to about five minutes cleanup per collet. A friend walked by and could see that the 1/8” collet opening was not round from his position behind me. It was the only one showing obvious defect, and it looked like it or the grinder slipped during grinding the core opening. I then chucked a sampling of the collets up in my mini machine shop Hi Torque 4200 lathe to check for runout. The 1/8” has 0.006” of runout. The 5/32”, 1/4”, & 3/8” show NO VISIBLE MOVEMENT of the needle. All in all, I am very pleased with this set at the price point. I can replace the 1/8” collet for $10-15 at a local machinery surplus shop and use this one to cut a custom collet if needed.
